Climate Change

Climate change is considered one of the most serious environmental problems facing our planet. As the name suggests, it refers to long-term changes in the Earth’s climate on a global scale. It is mainly characterized by abnormal weather conditions, such as sudden increases or drops in temperature, or unexpected rain, snow, or drought during periods of the year when they are not usually expected.

A Simple Example

To give an example, I live in Thessaloniki. One day, while going to work, I saw snow on the ground. The next day, when I passed the same place again, there was not even a single trace of snow left. Surprising, right?

Why Climate Change Is More Serious

However, climate change is far more serious than unusual daily weather patterns. It is responsible for the melting of ice in Antarctica, which in turn contributes to flooding in various islands and the overall rise in sea levels. This means that climate change is indirectly linked to human loss of life and the destruction of natural habitats

How to Reduce Your Impact

Some ways to reduce your personal carbon footprint include:

  • Using clean and renewable energy sources
  • Avoiding unnecessary consumption and overbuying products
  • Reducing air pollution by limiting the use of cars and opting for more sustainable transportation whenever possible
